Percheron Congress
Set For Oct. 23-26
LEXINGTON, Va. The Percheron Horse Association of Ameri
can will present the World Percheron Congress at the Virginia Horse
Center, Lexington, Va., Oct. 23-26.
The event takes place every four years.
More than 680 Percheron draft horses will be at the event. This
number includes 2S six-horse hitches, more than 200 cart entries, 220
mares, 180 stallions, and 100 geldings in halter classes.
On Wednesday, Oct. 23, classes include stallion and gelding halter
classes and plowing classes. Cart, team, and unicorn hitch classes will
commence in the evening.
Thursday, Oct. 24, will be the mare and group halter classes along
with the obstacle course class. The evening includes cart, team, and
four-horse hitch classes.
Friday, Oct. 25 will be the log skidding classes along with a horse
sale. The evening includes cart, team, and four-horse, and six-horse
hitch classes.
The events on Saturday, Oct. 26 include Percheron crossbred class
es, riding, driving, and halter youth classes, cart, team, and unicorn,
and six and eight horse hitch classes. There will be a horse pull in the
evening.

Belgian Halter Champions

The 2002 Belgian Halter Show lived
up to its reputation as one of the
great exhibitions here Oct. 2 during
the 4Sth Annual Keystone Livestock
Exposition (KILE).
Walking off with champion hon
ors in the gelding show was Lor-Rob
Dairy Farm of East Bethany. Re
serve champion gelding was Clear
Creek Clark, owned by Dean and
Kelly Woodbury of Winchester, Ind.
In the stallion competition, the
entry exhibited by Brian and Jodi
Winkler of Creston, Ohio, L.A.
Tami's Maverick, was selected
champion stallion. Completing the
champion pair was Mcllrath’s Cap
tain Jim, owned by Dean and Kelly
Woodbury of Winchester, Ind., who
was the reserve champion stallion.
Rising to the top of the mare class
was Greene Meade Bess, owned by
Jessie Graber of Churubusco, Ind.,
as the champion mare. Reserve
champion mare was owned by Har
mon and Powers of Armada, Mich.

KILE Hitch Show Winners
HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.) Pageantry and skill were showcased as
representatives from all draft horse breeds were on display at the Adult
Western Riding, All Breeds Classic Series 6 Horse Hitch Show, Adult Eng
lish Riding, and Open 6 Horse Hitch Driving Competitions Friday, Oct. 4, at
the 46th Annual Keystone International Livestock Exposition (KILE).
Three American riders galloped off with titles at the Adult Western Rid
ing competition. A. Carolyn Miller, Belleville, placed first with Meadow
Creek Jake and third with Double G Bud-Man. Second place was #3OB
owned by Steve Morrill, Upperco, Md.
The team hitch pulling into the lead at this year’s All Breeds Classic 6
Horse Hitch Show was the Promotion 6 Horse Hitch owned by Pierre Gag
non, Quebec, Canada. The second place team, #378, was exhibited by Perch
eron Farm, Jordan, Minn. In third place was the Strawberry Lane team
owned by Greg and Debra Lurvey, Oionomowoc, Wise.
In the Adult English Riding competition. Horse #357 placed first owned
by Kendall Strawn and Debbie Taylor and Straw Farm of Union City. A.
Carolyn Miller, who won an award, and her horse Jake took second place.
Third place winner was #325, owned by Sandy Lemer and Paul Maye,
Upperville, Va.
The final event of the evening was the Open 6 Horse Hitch Driving Com
petition. Four teams rallied for the crown. In the final lineup, Morrisville
College, Morrisville, N.Y. placed first with team #387. In second was team
#371 exhibited by Roger and Linda Thoms of Aaronsburg. Team #347
owned by Ken Sandoe and Kevin Tempest, Myerstown, won third.
