First Klussendorf* Scholarships Won By Ayars And Sanders Ohio, Pa. Youth To Be Honored At World Dairy Expo COLUMBUS, Ohio The Arthur B. Klussendorf Memorial Association has announced the results of its first Klussendorf Scholarship Awards contest. Students already attending college and majoring in dairy/animal husbandry responded strongly to the contest. In addition to satisfactory academic standing, leadership and extracurricular activities, a special in terest in showing and fitting dairy cattle received spe cial consideration. Contest judges were impressed by the winners as young men who will uphold the character and ethics tradition of legendary dairy cattle showman and fitter, the late Klussendorf. The two $l,OOO scholarships are made possible by a generous gift from late Klussendorf member, Chris Kampf. Ayars of Land of Living Farm, Mechan icsburg, Ohio, will be a junior at Ohio State University this fall, majoring in animal science. Ayars has had considerable experience and success on the home farm, at the shows and at college, where he is active in showing, fitting and judging contests, as well as in the Buckeye Dairy Club. He has also been an officer and director of the Ohio Junior Guernsey Association. Ayars was in charge of the home farm’s show strings of 23 and 12 head at the 2001 Ohio State Fair and World Dairy Expo, respectively. Joshua E. Sanders, Littlestown, Pa., will start his final year at Delaware Valley College this fall, major ing in dairy science. Sanders has already developed a fast growing business, JS Cattle Prep. He is an assist ant herdsman at his uncle’s Locust-Ayr Farm and during the school year, works with the college herd and at Indian Valley Holsteins. He owns 10 head of Holsteins, as well as part interest in two syndicated an imals. He is active in college events and societies in cluding the Dairy Society Consignment Sale, Block and Bridle, and Alpha Gamma Rho. Sanders was also second high individual in the 1999 Maryland State 4-H Dairy Cattle Judging Contest.
