Some 227 market lambs, 92 mar ket steers and 134 market swine were sold at the Rockingham County Fair on Friday, Aug. 16. Laura Sponaugle’s supreme grand champion lamb weighing 130 pounds was purchased by Cargill Turkey Products at a hefty $10.25 per pound, or $1,332.50, for the 16-year old from Grottoes. Cargill Turkey Products was represented by Bill Griffin and Brett Seal. Ashley Good’s reserve lamb weighing 135 pounds, was pur chased by Arnel Investments and Goods Towing for $6.20 per pound, or $837. Good, of Mount Clinton, is 16 and a junior at the Turner-Ashby High School. In lamb pairs, Laura Sponad gle, Grottoes, also owned the su preme grand champion pair that weighed in at 260 pounds. The total weight of some 134 swine was 32,805 pounds, with an average weight of 245 pounds. The price per pound averaged $1.58 for swine. Some 90 hogs were graded No. 1 and 44 were graded No. 2. Several youths said they had decided already to reinvest their money for other market animals to show in 2003.
