Lancaster County Weekly Cattle New Holland, Pa. Report Supplied By USDA Friday, September 6,2002 CATTLE CALVES THIS WEEK 2708 1557 LAST WEEK 2539 1704 LAST YEAR 2277 1608 CATTLE: Compared to last week, slaughter steers sold steady to .50 lower. Holstein steers were in very light supply this week, with the few available trading mostly steady. Slaughter heifer receipts continue to be light, therefore a market trend was not established. Breaking and boning cows sold mostly steady, weak ening late in the week. Slaughter bulls sold mostly steady, with prices firming up at the end of the week on a good run and demand. The direct feedyards in the Southern Plains continue to hold out this week as the Northern yards have already moved some cattle 1.00-2.00 lower on a dressed basis, at mostly 99.00. The few live sales that have been reported are ranging from 60.00-65.00, however with a weighted average ranging from mostly 62.00- 63.00, steady money this Week would be a victory. An abundance of com petitive proteins remain on the market, with butcher hogs finally breaking through the 20.00 barrier after a two week CALL THE SOIL EXPERTS ■n Mahlon King, Certified Soil Consultant, 717-354-8594 CROP & SOIL PRODUCTS & SERVICES • Specializing in soil fertility * Nutrient Management • Complete soil testing Planning through BROOKSIDE • Soil amendments LABORATORIES .
