CATTLE: Compared to last weeks
closing prices, slaughter steers began the
week trading on a weaker undertone.
However, bids trended mostly steady to
close out the week. Packers were relative
ly quiet late in the week as many plants
prepare to go dark for the Labor Day Hol
iday. Holstein steers traded mostly steady,
with slaughter heifers not well tested. The
direct feedyards moved cattle 1.00 to in
stances 2.00 lower on a dressed basis late
in the week, with the Southern Plains
trading a few live cattle from mostly
63.00- The majority of the direct
feedyards in the Southern Plains have yet
to trade the bulk of their cattle as of Fri
day morning. Slaughter cows sold
1.00- lower on light packer demand.
Slaughter bulls sold mostly steady. Sup
ply included 38 percent slaughter steers, 4
percent slaughter heifers, 41 percent
cows, 6 percent bulls, with the balance
feeders.
