DOMESTIC MARKET HIGH
LIGHTS: The market tone was generally
steady on hens and toms. Negotiations
were in progress and sellers anticipated
an increased demand as the Thanksgiving
holiday period draws nearer. Trading was
heavy on Grade A 4-8 lb breasts for Sep
tember-October shipments. Domestic ac
tivity was spotty on bulk meat and very
light on bulk parts. On August 6 USDA’s
Agricultural Marketing Service purchased
5,606,000 pounds of turkey and turkey
products for school lunch and other do
mestic food nutrition assistance pro-
grams.
EXPORT MARKET HIGHLIGHTS:
A heavy volume of tom drums moved into
export channels with some negotiations at
lower trending prices. Light volumes of
thigh meat moved at prices that were
steady in relationship to the destinations.
Tails traded at unchanged to higher
trending prices. Hen drums and thigh
trim with bone fragments both traded at
20 cents delivered port.
