July is a vacation month. Two
families drove from Atlanta,
Georgia to spend some time with
us. We had a frill house for a
week.
Some of the seven grand
children, who were here, helped
to put more than 100 big round
hay bales in the barn. Later they
played hide and seek there. Even
though the grandchildren ate and
slept here they spent most of the
time on the farm with the ani
mals. The girls especially liked to

play with the kittens. Our grand
children have grown a lot in the
last year and are taller than us.
Instead of two of us sitting at
the kitchen table, we had more
than a dozen at two tables. We
had a frill kitchen with three
women making three different
dishes. And, a cousin from Arizo
na stopped in one noontime for a
short visit. She generously gave
us a five-pound box of chocolates.
At least there were plenty of peo
ple to share them.

Air mattresses in the basement
helped with sleeping arrange
ments. The coffee pot was going
most of the day as some people
love their coffee. My husband
likes root beer, and I like water.
One meal was eaten at a restau
rant in Lancaster. That was a
treat for us as I cook meals at
home when we are alone.
Our guests worked hard for
their food as we now have our
garden rototilled, the raspberry
patch trimmed, and many weeds
removed too. However, we found
some time to just sit and visit.
Usually our visiting is via tele
phone.
Over the weekend our son had
a pig roast and invited his fellow
employees, neighbors, and his
siblings. About 20 of our family
were able to attend. The meat
was delicious and there was
ample food served on a farm
wagon as a table. The week
passed quickly.
