Compete At World Pork
DES MOINES, lowa
Swine exhibitors from 16 states
competed at the World Pork
Expo, Des Moines, lowa, June
6-8. Entries were judged for
phenotype as well as genetic
merit based on real time scan
data and Expected Progeny
Differences (EPDs).
The Duroc show was judged
by Brian Hines, Quincy, Mich.,
assisted by Dr. Bob Hines,
Manhattan, Kan. Howard Par
rish, Edon, Ohio, sold 21 boars
averaging $1,625, and 22 gilts
averaging $527.
The Duroc premier sire
award was presented to GJO
Redwood 31-8, owned by Guy
Jackson and Stein and Stewart.
WFD9 Kobe 241-1, owned by
Swine Genetics International,
Whiteshire, Waldo Farms,
Stewart Durocs and Zehr, was
named reserve premier sire.
The grand champion and top
selling Duroc boar, shown by
Huinker Durocs Ltd., Decorah,
lowa, sold to Salmon Creek,
Compart, and Swine Genetics
International, for $B,OOO. The
boar was sired by HDO Trade
mark 37-5.

ics, Palmyra, Neb., exhibited
the reserve champion and sec
ond top-selling Duroc boar. He
sold to Swine Genetics Interna
tional, Cambridge, lowa, for
$3,600.
Lot 86-2, shown by Isler Ge
netics, was named grand cham
pion Duroc gilt. She was sired
by IDO Code Red 141-1 and
sold to P & S Swine, Madera,
Calif., for $950.
The reserve champion and
top-selling Duroc gilt was ex
hibited by RW Genetics and
sold to Richard Waltman, Au
gusta, Kan., for $2,000.
Steve Rodibaugh, Rensselaer,
Ind., judged the Yorkshire
show and was assisted by Jeff
Rodibaugh. Dan Baker, West
Lafayette, Inc., auctioneered 30
boars averaging $2,278 and 55
gilts averaging $Bl6.
Top Cut Sires accepted the-
Yorkshire premier sire award
for their boar, WJDO Tuned In
35-2. The reserve premier sire
plaque was presented to Steve
Cobb and Chuck Olsen for
ARKO Full Power 46-4.

Porter, California,
Mo., and sold to Lean
Value Sires for
$37,000. This boar was
the top-selling overall
at this year’s Expo.

Greencastle, Ind.,
showed the reserve
champion and second
top-selling Yorkshire
boar. He sold to Wil
bert Moench, Terra
Bella, Calif., for
$4,200.
Grand champion
Yorkshire gilt honors
went to Chuck Olsen,
Irene, S.D. Olsen’s gilt
sold to Ronnie Smith,
Wabash, Ind., for
$3,100.
The reserve champi
on Yorkshire gilt was
exhibited by Creager
Farms, Wauseon,
Ohio, and sired by
TDCO CEO 87-5, the
world record-selling
boar from the 2001
Summer Type Confer
ence. Creager’s gilt
sold for $2,300 to
Terry Stade Farms,
Inc., Shakopee, Minn.
The top selling
Yorkshire gilt was
Chuck Olsen’s second
place gilt, who sold to
Hirschfeld and Sons, Benedict,
Neb., for $6,600.
Dr. Harold Hodson, Cam
bridge, lowa, judged the Land
race show. Howard Parrish
served as auctioneer and sold
four boars averaging $1,525
and five gilts averaging $4OO.
The plaque for Premier
Landrace Sire was presented to
Jon Fisher, Prairie State
Semen, Inc., Champaign, 111.,
for CR9 PSSS Snake 152-1.
Cedar Ridge’s CRO Supreme
345-1 was named reserve pre
mier sire.
The grand champion boar,
exhibited by Limerock Genet
ics, Cresco, lowa, sold to Chris
tian Genetic Services, Wood
ward, lowa, for $l,BOO. The
boar was sired by CRO Su
preme 345-1.
Cedar Ridge Farms, Inc.,
Red Bud, 111., sold their reserve
champion Landrace boar to
Christian Genetic Services for
$1,400.
The top-selling boar was ex
hibited by Hoewischer Farms,
Sydney, Ohio, and sold to
Prairie State Semen, Inc., for
$2,500.
Bob Naylor, Cambridge,
lowa, evaluated the Hamp
shires. Kevin Wendt, Green
Springs, Ohio, auctioneered 18
boars averaging $1,326 and 20
gilts averaging $967.
Pork Producers To Elect Delegates

the election of the two pork
producer delegate candidates
for the 2003 Delegation Body of
the National Pork Board (Pork
Act) will take place at 10 a.m.,
Saturday, Aug. 24.
This election will be con
ducted in conjunction with the
MPPA Board of Directors
meeting at the Maryland State
Fairgrounds in Timonium, Md.

G. Nash and Hendrickson
Farms for LDCO Blackout 36-2.
Joe Lancaster, Ada, Okla.,
exhibited the grand champion
Hampshire boar, who was sired
by JLO Shoot Out 24-3. This
boar was also the top-selling
Hampshire boar, as he sold to
Oklahoma State University for
$4,000.

iton, lowa, and sold to Eugene
and Connie Gross, Holcomb,
Kan., for $2,000.

Calif., for $2,600.
Penner Hampshires, Inc., ex
hibited the reserve champion
Hampshire gilt, a daughter of
JSEO Choctaw 137-1. This gilt
sold for $1,150 to Dennie Han
sard, Shatter, Calif.
The top-selling Hampshire
gilt was exhibited by Autumn
Rose, Kirklin, Ind., and sold to
Ronald Holley, Bridgeport,
Texas, for $5,750.
