CATTLE: Compared to Thursday,
slaughter steers opened Monday steady to
.50 higher, to close Tuesday .50 lower.
Trading opened very active on early sales
but moderate on late sales as the 4th of
July holiday comes closer. Holstein steers
steady to firm. Slaughter heifers have no
comparison, but a higher undertone noted
on few early sales of fancy lots and sin
gles. Slaughter cows. Breakers and Boners
traded steady to 1.00 lower, with the Lean
cows 3.00-5.00 lower, with light demand.
Slaughter bulls not well tested but a lower
undertone noted on the Yield Grade 2.
Supply included 43 percent slaughter
steers and 51 percent cows.

This week’s reported auction volume in
cluded 46% over 600 lbs and 44% heifers.
Compared to last week; feeder and
Stocker cattle prices were steady to weak
in most areas, except for the Southeastern
region which traded steady to 2.00 lower.
Demand was moderate, at best, on lighter
receipts as trading activity slowed-down
and fell into a pre-holiday slump. Most
auction markets wilt be closed next week
for the 4th of July and country trading is
sure to be very limited.
In just a few days, the cattle marketing
atmosphere has changed from a flaming
