neighbor gave it to me and he
had found it at a Goodwill Store.

heirloom. The fact that it is
signed and dated 1880, adds to
the value.
However if several colors
were used along with designs
and animal', flower or bird mo
tifs, it would be worth more
than its shop price of around
$3OO.
My mother-in-law asked me to
find out the value of this 12-inch
high china vase with a picture of
a standing woman in a long gown
and cape.
It has no mark on the bottom.

print, with the following printed
on it: “Reinagle Siena ARA
Ponxt, Night Blooming Cereus,
London. Published by Dr. Thorn
ton. Jan 1,1812. It is in excellent
condition though the brown
paper backing is showing its age.
I haven’t examined it out of the
frame.
Since I have willed it to dear
friends I would like to tell them
what they are to receive.

paper backing showing” leads
me to believe that your print
was “laid down”; glued to a
backing as was common in the
late 19th, early 20th century.
This lowers the value. How
ever, it can be professionally
removed, depending on the
value of the print. Prices for
Dr. Thornton’s prints range
from $2,200 to $14,000 in gal
leries, such as Kenydn-Oppen
heimer, in Chicago (who also
restore prints). Send a photo to
