June 28 marks the anniveisaiy of the Battle of
Monmouth. New Jersey, in 1778, when Mary
Ludwig Hays earned the name Molly Pitcher Her
husband served as an artillery man in the conflict In the
severe heat and combat activity, the guns and the sol
diers needed watei to axil them oft Twenty-one yeai
