cook whole broiler/fryers was generally
fair at best as dealers limited orders to
most immediate needs. Offerings of all
sizes were at least adequate. Movement
through retail and distributive channels
was mostly fair to moderate. The market
tone was about steady.

DOMESTIC MARKET HIGH
LIGHTS: Trade sentiment on frozen
whole turkeys was steady to instances
firm. Frozen demand for November holi
day needs was slow to instances moder
ate. Fresh inquiry for November holiday
needs was light. Trading for current ship
ments centered on a moderately heavy
volume in the West and for deferred ship
ments on product delivered East. In the
East, frozen hens had a price ceiling of
73.75 and toms a price ceiling of 68.75
cents delivered October. Offerings were
generally held with confidence. Bulk
parts and meat trading light. USDA
bought consumer pack, bulk pack and
turkey hams for school lunch and other
domestic food assistance programs. Next
offers are due by 12 noon CDT, July 1,
2002 on consumer pack, bulk pack and
turkey hams.
EXPORT MARKET HIGHLIGHTS:
Export trading centered on a light volume
of frozen thigh meat. Inquiries ranged
slow to moderate with interest noted for
Russia for prompt shipments and for
Mexico. Some export buyers for Mexico
and Russia remained cautious while they
wait for clarification of import

Prices were unchanged. The market
tone was steady. Demand was light to in
stances good, best where promotional ac
tivity was in place. Large eggs were ad
vertised at 48 cents per dozen, limit 4, and
also on sale at 79 cents per dozen, no
limit. Supplies were fully adequate for
present requirements. The New York
shell egg inventories increased 12 percent
and the New Jersey inventories increased
24 percent when compared to last week.

better than fair as dealers continued with
a very cautious and unaggressive posture.
Offerings of breast items were at least ad
qequate, although, bone-in breasts were
noted in the better balance. Dark meat
lines were more than sufficient. Wings
were available. Fairly good seasonal de
mand kept product moving through dis
tributive channels, however, retail interest
was generally light to fair at best. The
market tone was no better than steady.

Mostly prices were unchanged on
whites, but sharply higher on the balance
of products when compared to previous
week’s trading. Trade sentiment was
steady on whites and fully steady on the
remainder of items. Demand was fair on
whites, moderate to good on whole, and
good to occasionally very good on yolks.
Supplies were at least adequate on whites,
about sufficient on whole, and generally
tight on yolks. Liquid and frozen eggs (in
gredients included) processed under fed
eral inspection in the Eastern region for
the week ending June 08, 2002 were 17%
higher than the previous week and 8%
more than a year ago.
