When you get older, it seems
that the mailman’s arrival be
comes more important. Maybe it
is because one has more time to
sit down and read the newspaper.
Our mail arrives anytime be
tween 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
That is quite a difference, and
sometimes we think they forgot
about us.
It is not just the mailman that

cannot be depended on, it is also
general delivery. A while back a
letter was returned to me a week
after I mailed it to a local ad
dress. I’d forgotten to put a
stamp on the envelope as usually
the bank gave stamped enve
lopes, but I didn’t notice the
change. I was so glad that it did
not contain payment for a credit
card as then I would have had to
pay extra for a late payment.

Several of my birthday cards
came the week after they were
mailed. Two cards mailed at the
same time in the same box ar
rived four days apart. Sometimes
it is amazing to look at the post
marks and see where the letter
has traveled on its way here.
Have you noticed the methods
used to get the public to buy
more of a company’s product?
Sometimes the box of a particular
product will be an ounce or two
less than previous boxes but
you pay the same price. Or, a
soap product will contain a very
large plastic scoop to measure the
powder. Previously the measur
ing scoop was small and that is
when I began to throw away the
large one. They hope we’ll use
more and buy more.
Due to the dry summer last
year I am only picking quite
small strawberries this year. But,
it still takes a lot of time to go
over the patch. I think that I’ll be
picking sugar peas into August as
many of them were chewed off a
few inches from the ground and
are only now starting to bloom.

To make silk flowers look
more natural, hold each blossom
over steaming water for about a
minute. The steam will soften the
flower and give it a fresh-picked
look.
