better protect and restore local
water quality in the Shenandoah
and Potomac Rivers and the
Chesapeake Bay, West Virginia
Gov. Bob Wise officially com
mitted the state as a “headwaters
partner” in the Chesapeake Bay
Program the federal-state part
nership directing the protection
and restoration of America’s
largest estuary.
“With my signature on this
memorandum. West Virginia of
ficially becomes a partner at the
table, joining the other states that
have voluntarily agreed to main
tain and protect the Potomac
River watershed,” said Wise.
Magee Introduces Agribioterrorist Bill In N.Y.

Nelson) will be introducing a bill
in the State Assembly that would
create the crime of agribioterro
rism as well as make it a class B
felony to commit such a crime.

ral treasures the Chesapeake
Bay.”
At an afternoon signing cere
mony at the Department of Agri
culture’s district office in Moore
field, Wise signed a
Memorandum of Understanding
committing the state to working
with the Bay Program to improve
water quality in the bay and its
tributaries, as detailed in Chesa
peake 2000, the baywide protec
tion and restoration agreement
signed in June 2000.

including parts of West Virginia,

nia, Maryland, Virginia and the
District of Columbia.

we have to introduce legislation
like this,” 1 Magee commented.
“But we cannot take it for grant
ed that some group may not try
to strike fear and terror into peo
ple by poisoning their animals
and food simply put, our food
is safe now we must ensure that it
is secure.”
