were steady to .50 lower. 47-50 percent
lean 220-270 lbs barrows and gilts sold
from 34.50-37.50. The direct trade prices
are based on 185 lbs hog carcass with
0.9-1.1 inch back fat and 6 inch square
loin/2.0 inch depth plant delivered. Na
tional direct trade closed steady to weak,
price range 38.49-52.70, with average
price of 49.29. lowa-So. Minnesota direct
trade was steady, price range 41.00-52.70
with average price of 50.27. The Western
Combelt was steady to weak with a price
range of 41.00-52.70, average price 50.28.
The Eastern Combelt trend was weak to
.50 lower, prices ranging 38.49-51.43 with
an average price 47.43.
Hog slaughter under federal inspection
on Tuesday was estimated at 369,000
head compared to 374,000 a week ago
and 358,000 a year ago. Week to date
744,000 head compared to 751,000 a week
ago and 714,000 a year ago.
