Cooperators estimate orders for the
week ending April 19 will increase by 3
percent. Present week purchases for the
week ending April 12 were 248,708 cases
which was 19 percent above the prior
week and 33 percent below estimates.
CASES PURCHASED: CARTONED:
205,854 up 19%; LOOSE: 42,854 up
19%; TOTAL; 248,708 up 19%.
Comparison figures are compiled on a
matched plant basis. Purchases and esti
mates by 17 cooperators; 30 dozen cases
or equivalent.

Trucklot buying activity on ready-to
cook whole broiler/fryers remained light
to no better than fair as dealers limited
orders to current needs. Offerings of the
3.5 pound and larger sizes were fully ade
quate to available. The 3 pound and light
er birds ranged adequate to well cleared.
Movement through retail and distributive
channels was slow. The market tone was
no better than steady on the 3.5 pound
and larger birds, but at least steady on the
balance.

Midweek opinions on markets were
generally steady. Demand continued to be
no better than moderate at both retail and
distributive outlets. Offerings of whole
body product were adequate for addition
al needs. Parts movement was fair with
supplies of boneless breast in better bal
ance, bone-in breast sometimes short of
needs, wings adequate, and dark meat
supplies viewed as in line with current
call. Fast food interest was just fair. Ex
port business was slow as participants re
mained confused on the rules of engage
ment. In production
areas, live supplies
were desirable at
adequate weights.

In the Southeast, mediums advanced 1
cent. All other prices were unchanged.
The market tone was steady to instances
fully steady. Demand into all channels re
mained light to good. Supplies of the
larger sizes were generally available. The
lighter weighted eggs ranged adequate to
closely balanced for present needs. Break
ing stock offerings were adequate for the
moderate demand. Light type fowl were
at least sufficient for trade requirements.
