Sen. Clinton Urges FBI To Investigate
Possible Bioterrorism On Dairy Farms
WASHINGTON, D.C. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton urged
the Federal Bureau of Investigation to help local officials in New
York respond to a rash of possible bioterrorist incidents involv
ing the use of antibiotics to deliberately contaminate raw milk in
storage tanks.
In a letter to Director Mueller, Clinton wrote, “As we reflect
on the lessons learned from the anthrax attacks, we should react
without delay to this deeply troubling form of potential harm to
the public. I urge you to take every step possible to determine
what happened in Livingston, Wyoming, and Genesee counties
in order to prevent this from happening to farms in other parts
of the country. ...The security of our food supply is crucial to
protecting our nation against the threat of terrorism.”
According to a recent New York Post article, “Cops say some
one has been sneaking onto farms at night and poisoning the
raw milk storage tanks with antibiotics. The sinister attacks ren
der the milk worthless and tens of thousands of gallons have
been dumped, hammering the fragile finances of many farmers.
In some cases, the poisoners are even injecting the cows them
selves.”
Since last fall, milk supply tanks at dairy farms in upstate
New York, including Wyoming, Livingston, and Genesee coun
ties, have been contaminated with antibiotics. Additionally, cows
have allegedly been injected with drugs. It is suspected that the
perpetrators broke into the farms, which are not secure, at night.
