A general membership meeting of the Mason-Dixon Red and White Dairy Cattle Association (RWDCA) was conducted March 17 at Middlesex Diner, Carlisle. The agenda included discussion of the 2002 convention in Belvidere, 111.; the 2003 convention; the 2004 con vention in Minnesota; the Spring Red and White Show in Syracuse; update on National RWDCA; and election of officers. Planning began for a sum mer picnic. The Mason-Dixon RWDCA will host the 2003 convention. A meeting will be conducted Sun day, April 21 at 1 p.m. at Middlesex Diner, Carlisle. At this time, plan ning will continue for the summer Foraging Around, the newsletter of the Pennsylvania Forage and Grassland Council is scheduled April 20. The Maryland Cooperative Extension has planned a Field Day on April 13 that will provide producers with information on Cover Crops for Or ganic Production, Late Season Raspberry Pro duction in High Tun nels and the Use of High Density Tunnels for Season Extension for Vegetables and Small Fruits. A regis tration fee of $5 will be charged to help offset handouts and lunch. The program will begin at noon at the Clarksville Research Farm in Ellicott City. There the group will tour the cover crop test plots and discuss re sults and future plans for this project. Next the tour will visit Larriland Farm in Lisbon, where there will be discussion on the basics of high tun nel season extension, including site selection, site prep, construction basics, and uses with regard to late season raspberry production. The final stop will be at Knill’s Farm Market in Mt. Airy to tour an advanced form of sea son extension called a High Density Tunnel. This system is used for both vegetables, cut flowers and small fruit production. A late lunch will be provided.
