Rugged Enough For Lime,
Precise Enough For Fertilizer.
You know how tough it is to spread
wet lime. And fertilizer is too expensive
to waste. Our new 56i spreader does
both jobs with ease. Plus, it has no
equal when it comes to spreading
“sloppy” material.
Stoltzfus Spreaders have been
known as unique, “top-of-the-line”
ag spreaders since 1947.

Weekly Summary

Report Supplied By USDA
NATIONAL FEEDER CATTLE
SUMMARY for week ending Jan. 18.
Receipts this week 297,500; last week
238,900, year ago 237,300. This week’s
reported volume included 41 percent
weighing over 600 lbs. Compared to last
week, feeder steers and heifers sold weak
to 3 00 lower across the nation. One ex
ception was the Southeast, where losses
were even more severe on steer and
heifer calves under 500 lbs. However, in
the Midwest and up through the moun
tain states, light calves sold steady to
2 00 higher. But for the most part, losses
were clearly evident and pressure
loomed over all classes of feeder cattle
Heavy receipts were partly responsible
for the lower market, but continued
losses on feedlot closeouts were mostly to
blame
Feedlot bookkeepers are starting to
run low on red ink and buyers continue
to try to buy cattle that are more in line
with fat cattle prices National Farms of
Kansas City announced plans to sell
their seven feedyards with 275,000 head
capacity Being one of the largest feeding
enterprises in the nation. National
Farms has been a major supporter of
auction and direct markets across the
Midwest and will be greatly missed. As
the number of players who are not affili
ated with a packer continues to dwindle,
the future looks tough for those that are
left Ihe custom cattle feeder may have
drawn the shortest straw, as customers
are getting harder to find and showhsts
are getting harder to sell The bulk of
this week's slaughter cattle had yet to be
traded by Friday afternoon, but the
market looks to be at least 100 and
maybe 2 00 higher. The USDA cattle-on
feed report was very close to expecta
tions So even though the numbers
appear to be bullish, the market should
not be affected Cattle on feed January 1
were pegged at 98 percent of last year's,
placements were 92 percent, and Decem
ber marketings were 3 percent more
than a year ago
