Lamb Market Reports Revised
In Mandatory Reporting Program
WASHINGTON, D.C. -
USDA has introduced two re
vised daily lamb market news re
ports and one new daily report to
complement existing reports as
part of the Livestock Mandatory
Reporting Program. These re
ports became available
starting Jan. 7.
The revised reports
are the U.S. Daily
Lamb Report and the
Western Daily Lamb
Report. USDA’s Agri
cultural Marketing
Service (AMS) anal
yzed data obtained
from packers to de
termine the purchasing
methods being used by
individual plants
AMS concluded that
confidentiality guide
lines could be met for
negotiated and formu
la lamb transactions if
daily data collected
from packers was ag
gregated in a multiday
report. This is the
same procedure that is
being used for lamb
carcass reporting.
AMS will publish
these reports each day
when aggregated data
includes three or more
packers and no indi
vidual packer is pro
viding more than 70
percent of the data.
If on an individual
daily basis the confi
dentiality guideline is
not met, the data will
be aggregated with
data from succeeding
days until the confi
dentiality guideline is
met.
By using this proce
dure, all reported data
for negotiated live
lamb and carcass
based formula transac
tions will be published.
On days when AMS is
unable to publish a re
port containing new
information, AMS will
publish a report con
taining the latest avail
able information.
These revised re
ports are expected to
improve public access
to mandatory informa
tion by permitting
AMS to publish a
greater volume of col
lected data on a more
consistent basis in a
manner that protects
the confidentiality of
reported transactions.
The new report is
entitled the National
Daily Lamb Carcass
Cutout Value Report.
The cutout value is
