The 82nd annual meeting of the Cumberland County Dairy Herd Improvement program re cently took place at the Penn Township Fireball, Huntsdale. The herd of Brymesser Farms, Boiling Springs was recognized for their production of milk and protein. The farms’ 245 register ed and grade Holstein cows pro duced an average of 26,989 pounds milk and 830 pounds of protein that means each one of their cows produced an average of over 13 ton of milk. That was enough to make them top herd in milk and protein in the county this past year. Their cow in 305 days produced 45,149 pounds of milk and 1,288 pounds of protein. Bry-Nel-Dane Avonne, a regis tered Holstein in the Brymesser herd, had the high 2X milk and protein 305 day record. She pro duced 42,393 pounds of milk and 1,176 pounds of protein. Jet Rae Farm of Shippensburg was honored for having the low est Somatic Cell County (SCC) yearly average in the county. Nealand Farms, Newville, re ceived second place honors. Rounding out the top five were Hidden View Farm, Newville; Mayapple Farm, Carlisle; and Hensel Hill Farm, Newburg. Brymesser Farms were hon ored for having both the high 2 year old in protein and the high 2 year old in milk (2X). The high 2 year old in protein was a register ed Holstein Bry-Nel Charm 7005 producing 966 pounds of protein. The high 2 year old in milk 2X was Bry-Nel Marconi 7044 with 30,720 pounds of milk. Nealand Farms’ cow #l4B re ceived recognition for high 2 year old (3X) for producing 33,242 pounds milk in 305 days. The herd of Sheldon Brymes ser and Sons (Brymesser Farms) was recognized at the 82nd annu al meeting for placing first in the Cumberland County Herd Man agement Awards Program. The herd earned a total score of 103 points. The herds earned points because they excel in several herd management areas such as in crease of milk, fat and protein production; sustained production for milk, fat and protein over last year and two years ago; somatic cell counts improvement; days open; number of services per pregnancy and age at first calv ing. Hidden View Farm, Newville, placed second with a Score 90. Nealand Farms, Newville, with a score of 79 placed third; Jet-Rae Farm, Shippensburg with a score of 66 and J. Paul Strock, Me chanicsburg with a score of 55 placed fourth and fifth respec tively.
