Pennsylvania Farmers Union elected new officers during its 30th annual state convention in Milesburg, Nov. 14-16. Larry Breech of Columbia County was elected Pennsylvania Farmers Union president by dele gates at the state convention. Successor to Robert Junk of Fayette County, who served as president for 10 years, Breech names coalition building and growth as top priorities for his first term as president, which will last until 2003. Breech has been a member of Farmers Union since 1989, and has served Farmers Union as en vironment committee chair. De partment of Environmental Pro tection (DEP) agricultural advisory board chair, and as membership chair. Bryan McConnell of Washing ton County was selected by con vention delegates to represent Pennsylvania at the 100th annual National Farmers Union Con- Dairy Checkoff Plans Events HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.) The farmer-funded dairy checkoff programs will be at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Jan. 5-10, working to increase dairy product demand. Promotional activities include special events focusing on dairy products along with an interactive consumer ex hibit to inform and educate. The Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program, the Ameri can Dairy Association & Dairy Council Mid East, and the Mid- vention in Irving, Texas in March. McConnell has been a member of Pennsylvania Farmers Union since 1993. Throughout the week, visitors may visit the dairy booth in the Farm Show main exhibit area to play the “Who Wants to be a Moollionaire?” game and view other dairy displays. The annual butter sculpture display returns to the Mac Clay street lobby of the Farm Show Complex, and an ex hibit featuring cow’s milk cheeses produced in the commonwealth will be displayed in the center of the Food Court.
