CATTLE: Compared to last week’s
closing prices, slaughter steers sold une
venly steady. Early in the week steers
opened steady on a good supply of fin
ished cattle, but late on Thursday the
steer market was spotty, with early sales
opening with high prices and closing on
a lower undertone. Demand was very
good, mostly on the top quality cattle.
Slaughter heifers closed steady to 1.00
lower. Local holstein steer prices traded
mostly steady for the week, with a few
bringing the top of the market. Feedlots
in the Plains and Midwest reported live
cattle 2.00 lower at 62.00-65.00 avg 63.06
and 3.00 lower dressed at 99.00-102.00
avg 101.07. Slaughter cows prices were
mostly steady to 1.00 for the week.
Slaughter bulls closed mostly steady,
with instances 1.00 higher late in the
week. Supply included 33 percent steers,
5 percent heifers, 36 percent cows, 6 per
cent bulls, with the balance feeders.
