    Monthly Record High For Red Meat Production In October

production to a new record high
for the month.

cent from the 4.10 billion pounds
produced in October 2000 and
164 million pounds above the

The program agenda will
address environmental stew
ardship, odor control, manure
spreader calibration, comput
erized record keeping, nitro
gen and phosphorus manage
ment for crop production,
possible impacts of phospho
rus-based nutrient manage
ment, and conservation prac
tices for nutrient management.
Both private and commer
cial haulers are encouraged to
participate in the training.

high set in 2000. Cattle slaughter
totaled 3.16 million head, up 1
percent from October 2000. The
average live weight was up 16

2 percent below the previous
year. Accumulated beef produc
tion was down 4 percent from
last year, veal was down 10 per
cent, pork was up 1 percent from
last year, and lamb and mutton
was down 3 percent.
