    Needlecraft Hobbyists To Meet
In Lancaster For National
Cross-Stitch Festival
CLEMMONS, N.C. Needle
work hobbyists will gather in
Lancaster for the Cross-Stitch
Festival, Sept. 27-29. The event
will be conducted at the Lancas
ter Host Resort and Conference
Center. The extravaganza is
sponsored by 10 of America’s
leading designers and manufac
turers of needlecraft materials.

ing to the Hobby Industry Associ

Open to the public, this event
is expected to draw 3,000 enthu
siastic cross-stitchers, embroi
derers, lace makers and other
needle crafters.
The Cross-Stitch Festival, in
its third year, offers many excit
ing activities to needlework
lovers.
• Needlework Competition
and Display: The festival will
sponsor a needlework competi
tion and ornament contest open
to the public. Winning entries
will be on display during the Fes
tival. In addition, the public can
view a special exhibit of SO juried
needlework samplers selected
from entries to Piecework Maga
zine’s inaugural sampler contest.
• Classes; Popular designers,
authors, and instructors will
teach over 150 classes. Class lev
els range from beginner-to-ad
vanced with instruction lasting
from two to six hours. Class proj
ects will include samplers, holi
day trims, home and personal ac
cessories plus the newest fibers

• Shopping: Open to the pub
lic, the Cross-Stitch Shopping
Mart will showcase new products
and trends and hundreds of
stitched designs by over 50 de
signers and manufacturers.
Teachers and exhibitors will con
duct mini-classes and free semi
nars. Vendors will sell fabrics, fi
bers, books, tools, and
needlework accessories.
• Celebrities: Famous needle
work designers will appear at
each show to teach classes, sign
autographs, share their needle
work experiences and display
their latest needlework designs.
• Special Events: Special
weekend needlework activities
will be offered in addition to
classes. They include a Progres
sive Sampler, Saturday Sampler,
and a Needlework Banquet.
The Cross-Stitch Festival con
tinues to support the local chap
ter of Big Brothers Big Sisters. In
2000, a total of over $13,000 was
raised for local BBBS chapters
throughout the country. The
funds are raised through the sale
of ornaments donated by festival
attendees and an auction of nee
dlework supplies. All proceeds
will go to the Big Brothers Big
Sisters of Lancaster County.
Admission to the Needlework
Shopping Mart: is $6 per day, $5
for seniors, children under 12
free. Classes run Wednesday
through Saturday.

2001 Needlework Teacher of the
Year and eight-time winner of
the Golden Needle Award for
outstanding cross-stitch design,
will be in Lancaster, Sept. 27-29.
She will teach several needle
work classes during the 2001
Lancaster Cross-Stitch Festival
sponsored by Creative Arts and
Textiles Show (CATS) at the
Lancaster Host Hotel and Expo
Center, as well as sponsor classes
to teach area Girl Scouts how to
cross-stitch.
Vredevelt’s designs are well
known to lovers of cross-stitch

Annual Meeting
GETTYSBURG (Adams Co.)
The 86th annual meeting oi
Penn State Cooperative Exten
sion in Adams County will be
conducted on Thursday, Nov. 1
at the York Springs fire hail in
York Springs. There will be a re
ception at 6:30 p.m. and dinner
at 7 p.m.
The highlight of the annual
meeting will be the presentation
of the coveted Extension Leader
ship Award. This annual award
is given to recognize a county res
ident who has demonstrated ex
emplary leadership for extension
and the community. Other busi
ness will include the recognition
of board members for service,
election of new board members,
and an audiovisual presentation
of extension programming high
lights of the year.
“This is a wonderful opportu
nity for Adams County residents
to meet one another and learn
how Adams County Extension is
improving the quality of their
lives through education,” said
William C. Kleiner, county ex
tension director. “We look for
ward to meeting members of the
public and showcasing the many
facets of extension activities.”
