Oklahoma Feeder
Cattle Weekly
Oklahoma City, OK
September 12,2001
Report Supplied By USDA
Oklahoma National Stockyards -
Weekly Cattle Summary Compared to
last week: Feeder steers 2.00 higher,
feeder heifers steady. Demand very good
for feeder cattle. Steer calves steady,
heifer calves steady to 3.00 lower.
Demand very good for steer calves, mod
erate for heifer calves. Farmers have
turned their attention to field work and
interest in receiving and caring for new
crop calves is moving to the back burner.
Quality of feeder supply plain to aver
age, calves mostly average. Feeder cattle
m medium flesh. Calves in medium to
mostly fleshy condition and this an in
crease in fleshy unweaned calves over
past two weeks. Weigh-ups mostly aver
age.
Compared to last Tuesday: Slaughter
cows 1.50-2.50 lower. Slaughter bulls
steady. Demand light to moderate for
slaughter cows, good for bulls. Decline in
slaughter cow prices a direct function oi
the market as increased numbers are
available at auctions following the holi
day shortened week. Several packer
buyers affirmed that their prices had not
changed since Monday evening. Bred
cows and pairs a different matter as
these considerably lower. Stifled replace
ment market could be related to farmers
busy with field work in this area or they
could be nervous over current situation
but this latter thought is unsubstanti
ated. Total of 795 cows and bulls sold
with 60 percent to packers.
Receipts this week 11,760; last week
1614, last year 10,645
Supply consisted of 52 percent year
lings and calves over 600 lbs; 41 percent
calves, 7 percent cows and bulls. Heifers
comprised 39 percent of feeder and calf
supply
Prices follow with weighted average
weight and price in parenthesis.
