    Lazarus Takes Market Show, Miller
Wins Breeds At Kutztown

the rams, said Wagner, were in
“serious contention,” for supreme
champion honors.
“When I select a supreme
champion I look for the animal
that is closest to the ideal for
each breed,” said Wagner.
Amanda’s winning ram com
bined soundness, style, and bal
ance, according to the judge.
Twelve ewes won their classes
to move on to compete for the
grand champion honor. Miller’s
Shropshire ewe won the supreme
champion ewe title.
The daughter of Ronald and
Joan Miller, Bemville, Amanda
has been around sheep all of her
life at the family’s 50-sheep farm.
A 4-H and FFA participant,
she has nine years of experience
in the show ring. This fall Aman
da will be a sophomore .at Tulpe
hocken High School.
Also during Kutztown Fair
Miller earned grand champion
fitter and grand champion show
manship honors, besides a second
place in her class in the blocking
and grooming competition. Addi
tionally she exhibited the cham
pion lightweight market sheep.
Cathy Levan, new Berks
County Sheep and Wool Queen,
earned the reserve champion
showman placing. Levan, Ham
burg, was crowned at the recent
Reading Fair.
Lorissa Lazarus, Breinigsville,
took home grand champion mar-
ket lamb placing. The lamb
was first named champion
middleweight. “This is an
honest kind of lamb that
combines balance and thick
ness,” said Wagner.
Also during the fair, in
the swine show Lorissa
gathered the supreme
champion gilt placing with
her Yorkshire February gilt.
Meat, muscle condition,
and extension marked the
reserve champion market
sheep exhibited by Shelby
Rarick, 9, Fleetwood.
She also exhibited the
grand champion pair of
market lambs.
Although she has
exhibited animals since
she was three years
old, this year is Shel
by’s first year of 4-H.
Her experience paid
off in the showman
ship classes, where she
earned a first place.
She was also first in
her class in the sheep
fitting competition and
reserve champion fit
ter.
