Berghage, associate professor of
horticulture.
“Cut flowers really have
piqued the interest of farmers
and others as a cash crop that
can be sold at farmer’s markets
and other outlets,” Berghage
said. “The cash return on a
small, well-managed plot of flo
wers is a lot more than you
would get from an acre of corn.”

tions will be conducted daily in
the tent at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.,
with an additional demonstra
tion at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug.
15.

help diagnose your plant, insect
and mite problems. “Bring sam
ples of turf, plants or insects for
an on-the-spot evaluation,” Ber
ghage said. “If we can’t solve
the problem immediately, we’ll
examine it further at a lab on
campus and get back to you with
a diagnosis and suggestions.”
Because of concerns over the
possible transmission of foot
and-mouth disease and other
foreign animal diseases, visitors
who have been overseas within
two weeks of attending Ag Prog
ress Days are asked not to visit
the event’s live-animal exhibit
areas.
