Wheat and corn bids made a slight
comeback after Monday’s declines while
soybean bids did a complete about face.
Board corrections, crop concerns, and
some export optimism were firming fac
tors. Wheat mixed, 2 cents higher to 6
cents lower. Corn 1 to 3 cents higher
Sorghum 4 cents higher. Soybeans 8 to
11 cents higher. Wheat bids were slightly
higher after yesterday’s weak trading.
USDA reported winter wheat harvest at
86 percent complete down 3 percent
from last year at this time. Spring wheat
ratings fell 3 percent to 60 percent good
to excellent. Most advances were due to
technical corrections on the Boards and
carryover strength from corn and bean
pits. Corn and bean bids regained some
of yesterday’s losses, despite the mostly
bearish progress report Monday. Some
improvement was seen in crop ratings
due to recent rainfall across the Corn
Belt and central Plains. Corn was up 5
percent to 64 percent good to excellent.
Crop progress was reported at or beyond
79 percent silking stage, just ahead of
the 5 year average. 21 percent of the crop
was in the dough stage, 9 percent ahead
of the average. Some areas, however,
remain stressed by hot, dry conditions.
Improved export interest over the past
couple of days for soybeans and crop rat
ings were improved, also up 5 percent
from last week. Soybean progress was set
at 79 percent blooming and 38 percent
setting pods compared to 84 and 48 per
cent respectively. Weather forecasts for
continued hot temperatures was also
supportive to bean bids as they are more
susceptible to yield losses when stressed.
