Every Dog Will Have His ...
July 3 marks the beginning of the Dog Days of sum
mer, which are named for the Dog Star, Sinus, and
are associated with hot, steamy weather. The ancient
Egyptians noticed that Sinus appeared just before the
Nile flooded each year, and they used it as a “watchdog”
to warn them of this event.
The Romans believed that
Sinus, the sky’s brightest
star, added heat to Earth.
Many people say that dur
ing the Dog Days, flies
increase in number, snakes
go blind, dogs go mad, and ram is scarce.
if the Dog Days he clear, twill he fair all
year.
