Gum Tree 4-H Fund Raiser Horse Show
HONEY BROOK (Chester
Co.) Ashley Parker of New
London, riding I’ve Got Rhythm,
was the winner of the prestigious
Fred Beans Medals class at the
Sunday, May 6, Gum Tree 4-H
Fund Raiser Horse Show held at
the 4-H grounds outside of
Honey Brook.
Second was Courtney Powell
of Street Road, West Grove rid
ing Cause I’m a Dreamer. The
two reversed roles in the $5OO
Junior Hunter Classic, with the
championship going to Ms. Pow
ell and the reserve to Ms. Parker.
The medals class is judged on
the rider, while the hunter class
is judged on the performance of
the horse or pony. Ms. Parker
also took reserve champion in
novice hunter with I’ll Show You
Something.
The $l5O Pleasure Horse
Stake was won by New York
Second with Tonya Alvirsi. The
$l5O Pleasure Pony Stakes was
won by Millennium Bug with
Devon Camarota.
Recognized for special effort
with the Sportsmanship Award
was Kevin Deets of Coatesville.
The weather was perfect for
showing and there was an excel
lent turnout for the show, which
was run in two show
rings simultaneously.

Baker.

To National Fluid Milk
Processor Promotion Board
WASHINGTON, D.C.
U.S. Secretary of Agriculture
Ann M. Veneman has an
nounced the appointment of two
incumbents and five new mem
bers to the National Fluid Milk
Processor Promotion Board.
All will be seated at the next
board meeting, July 13. Re
appointed members were Ann
Plrelz Ocana, Phoenix, Ariz. (at
large); and Joseph W. Van
Treeck, Anchorage, Alaska (at
large public member).
Newly appointed were Peter
Ross, Franklin, Mass., (Region
1); Mary Williams, Athens,
Tenn., (Region 4); Rachel Kyllo,
Minneapolis, Minn., (Region 7);
John D. Robinson, Dallas,
Texas, (Region 10); and James
T. Wilcox 111, Roy, Wash.,
(Region 13).
The newly appointed and
reappointed members will serve
three-year terms that expire
May 31,2004.
The National Fluid Milk Pro
cessor Promotion Board is com
posed of 15 fluid milk processors
from 15 geographic regions, and
five at-large members. At least
three at-large members must be
fluid milk processors and at
least one must be from the gen
eral public. The board was es
tablished by the Fluid Milk
Promotion Act of 1990 to de
velop and administer a coordi
nated program of advertising
and promotion to increase the
demand for fluid milk products.

equitation was Sarah Shaffer of

Devon Steen of New London.
Champion pleasure horse, one
of the show’s largest divisions,
was New York Second, shown by
Tonya Alvisi. This pair also cap
tured the reserve championship
in the Low Hunter Division. Re
serve in pleasure horse went to
Come Dance With Me, shown by
Melissa Harry.
Champion of the low hunter
division was Sky’s the Limit, rid
den by Barbara Mannis of Mal
vern.
In pleasure pony, the champi
onship went to Treasure Island,
shown by Brynn Powell of Creek
Road, Christiana. Reserve cham
pion was Millennium Bug, shown
by Devon Camarota. Millennium
Bug was also the champion nov
ice hunter and champion in the
mini stirrup division.
