Thanks to Mary Stover, Loganton, who writes her family had the same problem. This was their solution: Pur chase blocks of camphor at a drug store. Break the blocks Into squares and put one on each window where the bugs seem to enter. After a week and a half, the Stovers did not have a bug in the house. Did you know that convenience foods save time and effort that’s how they got their name. But some ac tually can save you money. Instant mashed potatoes cost less because the water has been taken out and there’s less bulk to ship. Others cost less starting with fresh ingredients because they have been canned or frozen so there isn’t the spoilage that oc curs with fresh foods. Still others cost you less than starting with basic ingredients be cause the manufacturer buys in bulk and passes on some of the savings. The following convenience foods save you money: Instant mashed potatoes; preshredded packaged coconut; canned cran berry sauce; frozen, canned, or powdered orange juice and drinks (fresh squeezed costs about 2'A times more); bottled lemon and lime juice (but not squeeze bottles); boxed lasagna skillet dinner; soy protein patties; canned chicken chow mein; boxed pizza mixes; canned Span ish rice; frozen fish sticks. These convenience foods cost more than homemade (make them using basic ingredients): Frozen meat pot pies,. canned stew, frozen chicken chow mein and chicken a la king, canned pork and beans, frozen batter dipped deep-fried chicken and shrimp, canned salad sandwich spread, stroganoff skillet dinner, frozen haddock dinner, shrimp newburg and shrimp Creole, yeast roll mixes, frozen and ready-to-serve yeast rolls, frozen ready-to-serve brownies, and cheese spread in a pressure can.
