AgriTalk, a national daily radio talk show focusing on issues in agriculture, will be broadcast live from the 2001 National Junior Angus Show in Denver, Colo. Angus youth will be able to speak out about current issues in agricul ture and serve as the focus of this coast-to-coast media event. “We’re excited about AgriTalk being part of our schedule at the upcoming National Junior Angus Show,” says James Fish er, director of junior activities for the American Angus Association. “It will give our junior members the opportunity to learn and voice their views about agricul tural issues facing them and their families and bring national atten tion to the positive activities Angus juniors will be participat ing in during the week. The broadcast will be Thurs day, July 12 at 9 a.m. MST and will take place on the grounds of the National Western Stock Show. The National Junior Angus Show is the world’s largest sin gle-breed beef cattle show and is sponsored by the American Angus Association. This year’s show is hosted by junior and adult Angus Associations from the Western United States, who have chosen the theme “Under the Western Sky” for the week long event. Angus youth will show both owned and bred-and owned cattle and participate in leadership events including pre pared and extemporaneous speaking, team sales, showman ship and poster and photography contests. It was known then as the Farmers’ Association, a county unit of the Pennsylvania Farm ers’ Association. The state and county Farmers’ Associations took on the name Farm Bureau in 1993. Today, the statewide or ganization represents over 28,000 farm and rural families. The Franklin County Farm Bureau recently surpassed its member ship record of 1,295 family mem bers. Eugene Hege of Fayetteville was voted first president of the Franklin County Farmers’ Asso ciation in 1951 and was in at tendance at the 50th anniversary banquet to receive a surprise pre sentation the Outstanding Member Award from Martin. Franklin County’s charter members were recognized by D. Eugene Gayman of Chambers burg, a former county president and former vice president of Pennsylvania Farm Bureau. Six of the 25 charter members were in attendance at the banquet. Guy Donaldson, current presi dent of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, was present to help honor the county’s past presi dents 13 of whom were present for a group photo.
