Annual Elk Auction in mid-
March, drawing in about 150 elk
enthusiasts for the event.

Thirty live elk went before
auctioneer Stanley Claycomb of
Osterburg as he enticed buyers to
place bids ranging from $7OO to
$1,400 for calves, $l,lOO to
$3,000 for cows, and $1,600 to
$3,500 for bulls. Semen from six
different'elk bloodlines was also
sold.
The doors opened at 9 a.m. for
bidders to view the elk and study
their pedigrees. Wade Hainstock,
an elk breeder for more than 21
years, conducted seminars before
the noon auction on antler prod
ucts and removing antlers.
Other seminars covered fenc
ing and nutrition and feeding
programs for calves, cows, and
bulls.
Auction records show that bid
ders came from Pennsylvania,
Blades overlap 1

the spindle
design is field
proven for
dependability.

native agricultural enterprise
after learning that elk are in de
mand for their no-cholesterol
and low-fat meat, the nutriceuti
cal demand and value of velvet,
and breeding stock. Hunting on
trophy elk hunting ranches is
also popular.
The family-owned Majestic

brucellosis-free herds in Blue
Knob, Huntingdon, and Coldwa
ter, Ontario. Their next auction
is scheduled Aug. 18 at their
Blue Knob Farm.
