Cooperative Says It Won’t Sell Out

Myers, president of the Allied
Milk Producers Cooperative,
Inc., said, “We are staying inde
pendent,” Myers told the group.
“Allied is strong financially. We
are not going to sell out to na
tional.”

(Dairy Management, Inc.). We
are very committed to staying in
dependent of them.”
Myers later explained that the

the national organization is what

vertising money would bypass

politan areas such as Pittsburgh,
Philadelphia, and Baltimore.
“We are doing a lot with a
small amount of money,” said
Myers. “We still support the
local (dairy promotion) commit
tees,” he added, highly com
mending the volunteers who
work for them.

Amy Mearkle, Bedford Coun
ty, a former dairy princess and
state alternate now employed by
Channel 10 television in Altoona,
was mistress of ceremonies.
“Once a princess, always a
promoter,” she <:aid. Mearkle
said that her perspective of agri
culture is an asset for farm news
on the early morning show.
Getting children to understand
where milk comes from has al
ways been a top goal set for the
Allied organization. That is why
school visits the princesses make
