PMCGA Announces 5
The 2000 season was a welcome improvement over 1999 for many producers. Many
folks around the state reported fine yields and our report this year reacts some of the
best fields that Were measured. Top yields like this do&tiiappenjuafe chance. They
are the result of careful planning and lop notch management throughWU the season.
We made a few changes to the rules this year based on input from our PMCGA board of
directors. For a few classes that meant we would have to do without three year
champions for two years.
Even with the generally good weather we had, there were a few stress factors that limited
yields of some of our entrants. The cool weather limited grain fill in some areas. In
other areas stalk lodging was severe and limited yields. In other areas a dry August put a
ceiling on yield performance.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to this effort - producers, extension agents, crop
consultants, and seedsmen. I’d also like to especially thank Mark Anile, who works with
me on this program for pulling this years data together while I was out of the office.
