ANSWER J. Doherty, Needmore, request ed instructions to make a baling twine wreath. Thanks to Gloria Sweigart, Manheim, for the following instructions: Use at least three sets of 18 bale ropes. (Use more or less ropes de pending on how thick a braid you want, but al ways use the same amount in each set). Have all the knots toward the bottom. (We always cut our bales open within 2-Inches of the knot). Using strong rubber bands secure each set of twine and braid like a pigtail. Then bend a wire coat hanger so into a round shape and braid around it, having the hook at top and have the last few inches open with the knots hanging down. Tie together so braid doesn’t open. Dec orate however you desire. ANSWER A reader wanted to know of a supplier for plastic rings to put on chicken feet to distinguish old chickens (2 years old) from one-year-olds when combined in the same room to conserve space. The reader also wanted to know what causes some chickens to continue plucking feathers from other chickens. Is it a deficiency in the feed, and if so, what should be added to chicken mash made from homegrown grains? King said it isn’t a deficiency.
