Approves Record
Number Of Farms
LANCASTER (Lancaster
Co.) Lancaster Farmland
Trust’s Board approved a re
cord-making 11 farms for pres
ervation at its February meeting.
According to Land Preserva
tion Committee Chair Jeffrey R.
Frey, “We’re extremely proud of
this accomplishment. It’s the
largest block of farmland our
board has ever approved at one
time. If all of these easements
become finalized, Lancaster
Farmland Trust will break all
records for the number of farms
and farmland acreage we have
preserved in a year.”
Frey is a farmer who lives in
Willow Street.
The 11 farms approved for
preservation account for 993

acres in eight Lancaster County
townships. Several Amish farms
are slated for preservation. Lan
caster Farmland Trust will also
partner with the Lancaster
County Ag-preserve Board, at
least one municipality, and pos
sibly the Lancaster County Con
servancy to pressure several of
these farms.
Lancaster Farmland Trust
has preserved 119 farms. Total
acreage is 7,794.
Frey said, “We were delighted
to consider preserving this many
farms at one time. We will, how
ever, subdue our excitement
when we consider the challenge
of the thousands of acres of pre
cious Lancaster County farm
land that remains to be
preserved.”
