conferences and chapter visits.
On Aug. 15-17, the state offi
cers attended Ag Progress Days
in Rocksprings. The team’s dis
play was entitled “Racing into
the Millennium,’’ was geared
more toward elementary age
children, with its racetrack, and
cars they could write their name
on and hang up. The state offi
cers also showed off their food
service skills at the Pennsylva
nia FFA Foundation food booth.
There they served Hatfield pork
products to the general public.
On Sept. 15-17, the state offi
cers, along with a bus full of
Pennsylvania FFA members, at
tended the Big E in West
Springfield, Mass. The members
competed in various Career De
velopment Events, or CDEs,
while the state officer team
helped to conduct the various
contests. The contestants were
given their awards at a recogni
tion banquet.
Three of the state officers
were asked to participate in
opening and closing ceremonies
with state officers from other
states. Tony Resh, Mike Livings
ton, and Lisa Allen were chosen
to serve as treasurer, invocator,
and reporter, respectively.
Many Pennsylvania FFA
members came away with
awards and Pennsylvania came
away with the Sweepstakes
Award for having their members
earn the most points in competi
tion.
On Oct. 6 the team helped to
conduct tours at Farm City Day
in the Pennsylvania Farm Show
Complex during the Keystone
International Livestock Expo
(KILE) livestock show. Farm

culture-related activities that
they would not normally come
in contact with. The state offi
cers led tours through the com
plex highlighting the different
animals and products that
might come from them.
On Oct. 17 the state officers
traveled to the Penn Stater in
State College for the annual Fall
Conference for Leadership and
Professional Development or
FCLPD. There the team con
ducted workshops for chapter
officers and mingled with the
members during lunch.
Oct. 21-29 the state officers
traveled to the national conven
tion. This year was the first year
that the team made their way
down by van. On the way down,
the team stopped in Columbus,
Ohio for the All American Quar
ter Horse Congress and at Mam
moth Cave in Kentucky. During
their trip, the team attended
awards breakfasts, sessions,
workshops, tours, committee
meetings, dinners, and manned
the Pennsylvania FFA Booth. It
was a whirlwind week of activi- 1
ties for the state officers, but it
was very enjoyable.
During the fall and winter,
the state officers conducted
many chapter visits and area
leadership conferences. The
highlight of winter was the 72nd
Annual Mid-Winter Convention
Jan. 8 in the large arena at the
Farm Show Complex. This
year’s theme, “Discover the
Power,” was a central part of
the convention. Two hundred
and twenty-four FFA members
were presented with their Key
stone Degree, four state stars
were named, and many other
awards were presented.
