Look Before You Leap
That is, go straight from February 28 into March 1 this
year. Many people know that Leap Years are divisible
by four; last year we learned that the century years
have to be divisible by 400. (2000 was a Leap Year, but
1700, 1800, and 1900 were not.) The even decades have
three leap years (2000, 2004, 2008) but the odd decades
have just two (1992, 1996).
1 Another clue is that if the
' first and last day of the
year are the same day of
the week (Jan. 1, 1999 and
Dec. 31, 1999 were both
Fridays), then it’s not a
Leap Year, but if the days
differ, it is a Leap Year. So now you know when to leap.
if you leap into a well, Providence is not
hound to fetch you out.
