Pennsylvania Ayrshire Futurity
The Pennsylvania Ayrshire
Futurity was created for the pro
motion of Pennsylvania-bred
Ayrshires.
Any animals bom between
March 1 and August 31 of each
calendar year are eligible to
compete in the futurity class at
the Pennsylvania All-American
Dairy Show in September two
years later. A breeder may nomi
nate any number of calves they
wish to the futurity.
The original nomination is to
be made by the breeder of the
animal. The breeder of the
animal at the time of entry must
reside in Pennsylvania, New
Jersey, or West Virginia. There
after the breeder or new owner,
(if the animal is sold) is responsi
ble for keeping up the eligibility.
Nominations need to be made
by Oct. 1 of the year the animal
was born, with a $3 entry fee per
animal.
Fees are as follows:
• $ 3.00 Entry fee
• $ 7.00 Sept. 1, One year
later
• $10.00.... March 1, l'/2 years

All entry fees are payable to
the treasurer of the Pennsylva
nia Ayrshire Association. All
fees are to be used in the futurity
purse. Failure to make a pay
ment cancels eligibility. All
entry fees forfeited to Pennsyl
vania Association if animal is
not kept current.
There are two parts to the fur
turity. One is the show at the Al
l-American Dairy Show in
September. Second is a produc
tion award. The total of the two
scores will determine the futu
rity winner.
The production will be based
on 2-year-old, 305-day record
projected as of the February test
based on 3.5 percent protein cor
rected milk.
Points will be awarded for
both show and production to
determine the overall winner.
• 50 points for first
• 40 points for second
• 30 points for third
• 20 points for fourth
• 10 points for fifth
There will be a banner for the
first place-show animal and rib
bons for second through fifth
place.
And for the production ani
mals it will be the same a
banner for first place and rib
bons for second through fifth
place.

Ayrshire
Princess Expections
Thank you for showing an in
terest in the Pennsylvania
Ayrshire Princess contest. As
stated in the requirements, you
must attend the spring conven
tion and sale, annual picnic, and
fall sale. Although the dates for
the picnic and fall sale are not
yet decided, the dates for the
spring convention and sale are
March 16-17. The spring con
vention and sale will be held at
the Shadowßrook Inn Tun
khannock. This is where the
princess contest will be held.
All participants must be at the
Shadowßrook Inn no later than
noon March 16. This is when all
of the participants will meet
with one another and myself to
go over the agenda for the rest of
the evening. This will be fol
lowed with interviews between
each participant and the judges.
At approximately 4 p.m., the
participants will be given one
hour to change for dinner and
the social hour which starts at 5
p.m.
At dinner, the participants are
required to give a three-five
minute speech about themselves
and their relationship with the
Ayrshire breed. After ail of the
speeches, there will be one im

the participants. After all of this
is done, the judges will leave to
go decide on the winner that will
be announced at the end of
dinner.
The newly crowned princess
and alternate are required to
stay and help with the sale that
follows the dinner. She should
also make herself available for
anything that may need her help
the following morning, during or
at the board meeting, along with
any other events that take place
that day.
The Pennsylvania Ayrshire
Princess is a highly prestigious
award for any young lady to ac
complish. This is why the prin
cess and alternate must conduct
themselves in a respectful way
at all events where they are rep
resenting the Ayrshire breed. If
any bad reports get back to the
association, that reflects poorly
against the breed, we reserve the
right to retract the crown and
banner and give it to the runner
up or go without a princess until
the next convention.
Both the Ayrshire princess, al
