Chapter is hosting the 2001 PA Young Farmers Association (PYFA) Convention to be held at Four Points
Sheraton Hotel Greensburg, PA The convention dates are February 6,7, and 8, 2001 We are excited
about this opportunity to show others our beautiful Westmoreland County in Western Pennsylvania and we
are asking for your cooperation and support
More than 250 farmers and wives from across the state will attend and benefit from the educational
tours and workshops There will be business meetings with the state officers and delegate meetings for
young farmers from each chapter The women will enjoy crafts and educational programs
Please accept this letter as an open invitation for your orgamzation/busmess to participate in this
conference either educationally, financially or both We offer the following options for your consideration

• Land purchased in 1790 and newly constructed bnck
church dedicated in 1t35 in honor of St Vincent de Paul
• First Benedictine monastery m the United Stales started in
1146
• Construction of present church began in 1891 and was
completed in 1905
Tuesday’s tour will end with a tour of a gristmill and a mute
reclamation area

• Mam bam consists of 5 pens-60 *7O each
• The manure pit is 56 x 300 x I feet deep
• Bunker silo was built in 1911 with a 4000 ton capacity
• Harvester silo was built m 1991, measures 30 x 90. with a
56.000 bushel capacity
• The 60-ft truck scales were built m 1996
• We also use the 100 x 32 revamped dairy bam with
outside lot
Set-up.
• Stan buys 700 lb Steers and finishes to grade choice at
1250 lb
• The mam feed ingredients include shelled com.com
silage with anhydrous ammonia and wet brewers gram
from the RoHmg Rock Brewery

• Wayne and Hope Frye Dairy
• Firm operation consists of 4500 seres with 2200 seres in
com. 2200 seres in soybeans. 20 seres of mixed hay snd
40 sacs of pasture
• Roasted beans were started in 1999
• Incoming csnlc are implanted wormed vaccinated
weighed, back poured and ear tagged with alternating
colored lags
• Pen# are scraped every other day with roof drainage
adding to the manure pit
• Manure is both injected and sjwead
• Bunks are scraped clean and limed daily
• Feeding is dote twice daily in hot weather
Hope and Wayne Frye are the owners of 140 acres
that they purchased in 1975 They rent an additional 400
acres. They started with 30 cows, added on 25 more m 1977
and in 19tt went to 85 cows
During this year they put up a free stall bam 250 x 63
feel with a drive through feeding alley They are milking 120
cows now and hope to milk 160 cows in the near future
Wayne and Hope have 4 children 2 boys and 2 girls
One son is married.

The Ladies Program will begin at 9 30 am with a
demonstration on basket weaving by Patty Klmgensmith You
will have the opportunity to weave your own basket (a future
Loogenberger?) The group will leave the hotel at 11 1 5 to go
for lunch at the Ligomer Country Inn and afterwards tour the
Southern Allegheny's Museum of Arts. Come join us'
