Percheron Reigns
Supreme At Farm Show

HARRISBURG (Dauphin
Co.) - After a ten-year absence
from the show ring, Pennwood
Percherons owned by the Cole
Family from Center Hall in
Centre County, came back to
win the coveted supreme cham
pion draft horse honors at the
2001 Pennsylania Farm Show.
First Choice Royal Contessa, a
four-year-old mare, was first
named the best of the Percheron
breed. The champion Percheron
stallion was HJL Ritzy’s Cyber
Magic owned by Henry Yohe,
York, York County. The best
Percheron gelding was also
owned the Coles.
The best of the Clydesdale-
Shire show was Carson’s Bonnie
Bernice, a five-year-old mare
owned by Derry and Tammy
Furry from New Enterprise in
Bedford County. The grand
champion Clydesdale-Shire stal
lion was Terragold King Foot
print, owned by Roger and
Linda Thoms, Aaronsburg in
Centre County. Edward John
ston, New Alexandria, West
moreland County, had the
champion gelding.
In the Belgian show, C.H.
Eddie’s Donna was grand cham
pion for Donald and Mark
Ryburn from Washington in
Washington County. Donna is a
three-year-old mare. S.G.F.
Master’s Bob was the champion
stallion for Gary Groves and
Don Sherwood from Tunkhan

Farm Show Honors Cornbower
HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.) - Russel Cornbower began exhibiting his award-winning
Berkshire hogs as soon as the Farm Show reopened to the public more than a half cen
tury ago at the end of World War 11. And Monday morning this week Russel, along with
son Arlie, were honored by the Farm Show for outstanding contributions to the industry.
Presenting accolades were two state secretaries, Secretary of Agriculture Sam Hayes

Forwood Honored At Pennsylvania
Draft Horse, Mule Association Meeting
HARRISBURG (Dauphin
Co.) Marvyn Forwood of
Delta was honored for his life
time commitment to the draft
horse industry by receiving an
honorary membership to the
Pennsylvania Draft Horse and
Mule Association at its Farm
Show meeting.
“This is a gentleman you may
find anywhere, constantly sup
porting the draft horse industry.
He always has a wealth of infor
mation to share with the young
and old,” said Luke Berkhart,
president ot the Pennsylvania
Draft Horse Association.
Forwood has been active with
the Percheron horse industry
since the 1940 s with the pur
chase of his first Percheron
mare. Today, Marvyn For-
Wbod’s first mare has more than
9,000 descendents, representing
more than one-fourth of all U.S.
registered Percherons. Forwood
has more than 178 registered
horses.
