The Franklin County Farm-
City Council contacted thou
sands of people through their
agriculture promotion efforts.
Fourteen activities were spon-
sored by the Farm-City Council,
ranging from hosting a Business
Expo featuring all aspects of in
dustry in Franklin County and
“Agricultural Weekend” at a

local mall, to poster contests and
farm tours. Through Franklin
County’s Farm-City Week
Speaker’s Bureau, the public
was contacted through speakers
at meetings and on radio and
television programs.

sands of people were contacted
through their five events held in

2000. Jefferson County Farm-
City Council worked to bring
agriculture to the residents of
Jefferson County through the
hosting of “Industry Tours” for
high school students, organizing
the 10th Annual Farm-City
Day, participating in the Jeffer
son County Fair, and participat
ing in Farm-City Week
activities.
Cherry Valley Vineyard, Say
lorsburg in Monroe County was
honored for the best wine entry.
Their Raspberry Spumante won
the Governor’s Cup and a gold
medal for the best sparkling
Wine. The vineyard also won
two silver medals and a bronze.
Cherry Valley was started in
1980 and has been making fruit
wines for the past 14 years from
100% whole Pennsylvania fruit,

tions, but Pennsylvania has the

The next day in his opening
remarks at the Farm Show, Lt.
Gov. Schweiker, said the six-day
farm show showed the future of
our $44 billion agriculture that
includes 800,000 employees.
“Pm privileged to be in your
company,” he said.
The Pennsylvania Mounted
Police performed at the opening
ceremonies, and the Pennsylva
nia High School Championship
Rodeo followed.
