    2001 National Highland
Show The Largest Ever
DENVER, Colo. The
American Highland Cattle As
sociation’s (AHCA) National
Show and Sale will be the largest
showing of Highland cattle in
North America.
Over 200 animals from across
the U,S. and Canada will com
pete.
The AHCA National Show
will be held on Friday, Jan. 19 at
the National Western Stock
Show in Denver, Colo. In addi
tion to the show, 50 top consign
ments will be auctioned at the
National Sale on Saturday, Jan.
20.
May 3-6 will be the annual
convention in Harrisburg, and
will focus on farm tours, hands
on workshops, a bull test sale
and regional show.
In 2001, the Highland breed
has two performance bull tests,
one in Wyoming and the other
in New York. These tests are an
excellent tool for breeders to
evaluate their bulls and select
new herd sires.

originated in the Highlands of
Scotland, where their rugged
ness and maternal abilities were
of paramount importance. Re
cently, cattlemen have not only
appreciated their calving ease
and lower maintenance, but are
also discovering the tender, fla
vorful and well-marbled beef
they produce.
The Queen of England raises
Highland cattle and serves
Highland beef. At the national
show, all bulls will be ultra
sounded to assist the judge and
breeders in selecting animals
that produce lean, well-marbled
carcasses.
The National Show and Sale
is just one of many activities and
programs AHCA is offering its
members. In fact, this show is
the culmination of “Roll of Ex
cellence” season where cattle
from across the country com
peted in over a dozen recognized
point shows. This year, the

duced to help breeders manage
and improve their herds.
AHCA has held this annual
event at the National Western
Stock Show since 1989. It has
grown in popularity and this
year’s promises to be the best
ever. The cattle will arrive
Wednesday and all will be
weighed and bulls ultrasounded.
Thursday evening a seminar
and reception is set for members
and other interested persons.
The show is Friday, starting
with junior breeding heifers fol
lowed by the record setting open
show. On Saturday, 50 top lots
will be offered at the National
Sale.
