    Warren County Dairy Herds Honored
LANDER (Warren Co.)
The Warren County Dairy Herd
Improvement Association and
Holstein Club recently held their
joint annual meeting dinner at
the Lander Fire Hall. Several
outstanding herds were recog
nized for their production the
past year.
The best dairy herd in Warren
County this year was the herd of
Rolling Acres in Sugar Grove.
The herd, owned and managed
by Tim Ludwick, consists of 45
registered Holstein cows. It was
the high herd in milk production
with 26,670 average pounds of
milk, high herd in protein pro
duction with 844-pounds of pro
tein average, and high herd in
butterfat production with an av
erage of 914-pounds of butterfat.
The Rolling Acres herd was also
the most improved herd in milk
production with a 3001-pound
average increase in milk.
Ludwick earned the Herd Man
agement Award with a total of
114 points.
Also during the award presen
tations, Rolling Acres also was
honored for having the top pro
ducing cow in Warren County
and in Pennsylvania this year. A
5-year-old Holstein cow named
“Dazzle Girl” produced 51,512-
pounds of milk, 1,485-lbs. of
protein, and 1,908-pounds of
butterfat The pounds of milk
produced earned her top honors
in the state, as Dazzle Girl pro
duced nearly 6,000 gallons of
milk. This amount is enough to
supply over 50 with
milk foranemfreyear.

Donald Ekey’s herd in Akeley
earned top honors for having the
lowest somatic cell count (a total
average of 157,000 somatic
cells), in Warren County.
High herds for protein and
butterfat were also recognized at
the meeting. Those herds pro
ducing over 800-pounds of pro
tein were Roiling Acres (844)
and Ronald Hunter (817). Herds
producing between 700-799-
pounds of protein included
Jared Lindell (721), Richard
Harrington (715), and Martha
Beardsley (714).
Those producing between
600-699-pounds of protein were:
Hem View Holsteins (689),
Foggy Meadows Farm (682),
Chris Lindell (676), Elzie and
Margaret Lindell (673), Mark
Lawson (672), Jack and Gale
Lindell (658), Pine Ton Farms
(658), Kevin Long (644), Gla
Don Farms (624), and Ran-Dell
Farm (615).
High butterfat herds included

Beardsley (878), Richard Harr
ington (840), Ronald Hunter
(818), Jared Lindell (795), Pine

Warren County Holstein Club
and State Holstein President,
Dean Johnson, presided over the
meetings. The Holstein Club of
Warren County reviewed their
activities throughout the year.
The 2000 consignment sale aver

winners were recognized for
their achievements at this year’s
Warren County Fair. Winners
by class were Kristen Hitchcock,
junior calf; Chris Vanco, inter
mediate calf; John Nickerson,
senior calf; Matthew Mitchell,
summer yearling and junior
yearling, Kelsi Wilcox, interme
diate yearling; John Nickerson,
junior 2-year-old; Crystal
Gruber, senior 2-year-old; Chris
Vanco, junior 3-year-old; Eric
Reynolds, 4-year-old; Kristen
Hitchcock, 5-year-old cow and
dry cow 2 years and over.
The distinguished junior Hol
stein member was Meggi Wilcox
of Russell. Meggi was also the
junior speech contest winner,
and she presented her speech at
the meeting.

test winner was Kelsi Wilcox of
Russell. She also delivered her
speech to the group.
Other youth were recognized
for their participation at the
Junior Holstein Convention.
Junior dairy bowl team mem
bers were Kelsi Wilcox, Meggi
Wilcox, Toni Gilkinson, and
Marshall Johnson. Senior dairy
bowl team consisted of Chris
Vanco, Peter Vanco, and Sarah
Lindell.
Tiffany Gilkinson, Warren
County Dairy Princess and
Sarah Lindell, Alternate Warren
County Dairy Princess were
present to promote the diary in
dustry.
The annual meeting program,
as well as a special recognition
during the invocation, was dedi
cated to the memory of three
active dairymen who passed
away this year. Dennis Lindeli,
Ransom “Buzz” Riedel, and
Leslie Curtis will all be sadly
missed by the dairy farmers in
Warren County.

NYFB Elects
Board Members
GLENMONT, N.Y. New
York Farm Bureau, the state’s
largest general farm advocacy
organization, elected or re
elected several state board mem
bers at their state annual
meeting recently at the Adam s
Mark Hotel in Buffalo.
Current President John W.
Lincoln was re-elected for an
other term and State Board Di
rector, W. Bruce Krenning, was
elected as the organizations’s
vice president.
In addition, five of the organ
ization’s eleven districts also
elected representatives for the
state board of directors. The re
sults are as follows:
• District #2: Karen Watt of
Orleans County
• District #4: Bob Chadeayne
of Schuyler County (re-elected)
• District #6: Bill Von Matt of
Oneida County
• District #8: Andrew “Jock”
Williamson of Washington
County
• District #10: Chris Kelder
of Ulster County.

tion Committee of New York
Farm Bureau also voted on their
state representative, re-electing
Judi Whittaker of Broome
County, who will be formally
appointed at the next board of
directors meeting.
