Hoffman Elected
Chairman

Hoffman, president, IMC Inter
national and senior vice presi
dent of IMC Global, Inc., was
elected chairman of the Potash
and Phosphate Institute (PPI)
board of directors at a recent
meeting.
“Steve Hoffman brings a
wealth of experience, both inter
national and domestically, to the
position of PPI Chairman,” said
Dr. David W. Dibb, president of
PPI. “We are extremely for
tunate to have an industry
leader of Steve’s caliber to help
guide the institute through the
year ahead.”
Hoffman is an officer of IMC
Global Inc., headquartered in
Lake Forest, 111. He is responsi
ble for the company’s interna
tional phosphate and potash
marketing and sales activities,
as well as overseas business de
velopment.
After joining the company in
1974 as a sales trainee, Hoffman
became a field sales representa
tive for the industrial chemicals
division in 1975 and in 1978 was
promoted to district sales mana
ger. In 1982, he joined the com
pany’s fertilizer group as
manager, Latin America.
He was named director/Asia
Pacific and then promoted to
vice president, international di
vision in 1987. In 1989, Hoffman
was promoted to vice president,
domestic wholesale marketing.
He became senior vice president,
wholesale marketing, 1990 and
was promoted to senior vice
president, sales/marketing,
1992. He moved to the position
of senior vice president interna
tional, IMC Global Inc., in 1994.
Hoffman was promoted to his
current position as president,
IMC International, in 1998 with
responsibility for sales, market
ing, and business development
outside the U.S. and Canada. He
continues as a senior vice presi
dent and officer of IMC Global.
Mr. Hoffman is President and
a Director of the Phosphate
Chemicals Export Association
(PhosChem). He serves on the
Board of Directors for the Cana
dian Potash Export Association
(Canpotex) and the Sulphate of
Potash Information Board. He
will also serve as Chairman of
the Foundation for Agronomic
Research (FAR) Board of Direc
tors for the coming year.
A native of Pittsburg, Texas,
Mr. Hoffman is a 1971 graduate
of Stephen F. Austin State Uni
versity, where he earned a Bach
elor of Arts degree in business
administration.
