LAST WEEK 2334 2055
LAST YEAR 2532 1749
CATTLE: Compared to last week’s
closing prices, slaughter steers and heif
ers closed mostly steady, with instances
.50 higher on the fancy singles. During
the week trading was very active for the
fancy single head lots, with good
demand for heavy cattle. Late in the
week the market showed some strength
but faded back to steady due to the lack
of well finished cattle. Midwest feedlots
traded cattle 1.00-2.00 higher from
74.00-75.50 live and 117.00- 118.00
dressed. Local Holstein steers closed
steady. Slaughter cows continue to de
cline closing 1.00-2.00 lower for the
week, while slaughter bull prices closed
steady to 1.00 lower on a thin test early
in the week. Supply included 26 percent
slaughter steers, 6 percent slaughter
heifers, 37 percent cows, 5 percent bulls,
with the balance feeders.

Group Commends Decision
HARRISBURG (Dauphin

“The over-order premium has
equal value to producers, dealers
and consumers,” said Steve
Graybeal, a dairy farmer from
Peach Bottom, Pa. “With pro

much within the industry, we
congratulate the board on
moving in the right direction by
increasing the premium and de

Lancaster dairy farmer
Nelson Habecker agreed with
Graybeal. “We appreciate the
board’s compromise to find

“Now it’s up to us as an industry

we can all participate in and
