Alfalfa Information LAS VEGAS, Nev. Us Vegas is the site for the 2000 Na tional Alfalfa Symposium Dec. 10-12. Members of the alfalfa indus try from growers to industry ex perts will gather to hear the latest research and ideas about alfalfa production. Sponsored by the California Alfalfa Workgroup and the Al falfa Council, the program is de signed to help anyone involved in alfalfa production become more efficient and profitable. “Our plans for the 2000 pro gram are to thoroughly study al falfa production practices and concerns from a western per spective. We’ve designed a pro gram to address these needs and address not only western grower concerns, but all regions of the U.S. as well,’’ said Dr. Dan Putnam, extension forage spe cialist with the University of Califomia-Davis and program chair for the symposium. “National Alfalfa Symposia have a long history of covering all aspects of this legume from production practices to environ mental concerns to marketing with some of the best research ers and company experts in the industry.” As the foremost meeting on alfalfa in the United States, the program committee expects nearly 600 growers, industry representatives, and marketers to attend. The meeting at the Las Vegas Hilton will open on Sunday, Dec. 10, with a tour of alfalfa production, a tour of Hoover Dam, a modem choco late factory, and field demon stration plots near Las Vegas. Carl Detwiler, Roaring Spring, Pa., showed the May 1999 daughter of Bushs Mon tana Truck. She was first named intermediate champion heifer.
