AS-Lancaster Farming, Saturday, November 25, 2000 Chill December llh nd after him [November] came next the chill II December; Yet he through merry feasting which ll he made. And great bonfires, did not the cold remember... ” Edmund Spenser (1552-1599) penned rhymes such as this for each of the 12 months and thus gave us a modem-day prescription for warming the days of this wintry month. With the holidays ahead, festive feasts with family and fnends may consume you. Mark your calendar now, reserving . . time for planting ‘Paper White’ narcissus, preparing nuts or popping popcorn, B you have some. Remember the gift of time; not all presents can be purchased. Small gifts make friends, great ones make enemies cr Candles, plants, breads, or books make great gifts for those who prefer less stuff. Feeder steers over 700 lbs steady to 1.00 higher, feeder heifers not well tested. Demand good for all classes. Demand remains good for light numbers of feeder cattle, especially after last Fri day’s bullish COF report. Placements showed only 36 percent of the cattle placed in October weighed over 700 lbs and with continued light runs of feeders this trend is expected to continue. Qual ity plain thru attractive. Calves in thin to fleshy conditions with more dried out weaned calves included; feeder cattle in slightly thin to moderate flesh condi tions. Weigh-ups average to gaunt, few full. Slaughter cows 2.00-3.00 lower. Slaughter bulls 1.00-1.50 lower. Packer demand very light due to upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. Quality replace ment cows sold noticebly higher as lim ited availability and high calf prices have raised the bar for these.
